Grandfather Bernard Robtoy (1929-2007)  The Clan of The Hawk will miss Grandfather Bernard Robtoy. At age 77, he had been a longtime Swanton resident and more recently of Island Pond. He died peacefully, Sunday morning, Aug. 5, 2007, in Evansville, Vt. on the grounds of The Clan of the Hawk where he had spent many hours and in a place that he loved so much. His wife Grandmother Hilda was beside him. Born in St. George, Vt. on Sept. 30, 1929, he was the son of the late Fred and Alice (Robtoy) Robtoy. He was employed for 23 years with the former Swanton Packing Company. Frank Reed was his employer and good friend, who continued along with his wife Sandy to visit Bernard even after his retirement.
Bernard enjoyed the friendship of his many friends at the Sunrise Manor in Island Pond and his extended family from The Clan of the Hawk, especially Chief Lone Cloud (Ralph Swett) with whom he spent many hours.
He is survived by his wife, Hilda, of 56 years; two daughters, Bernadette Paola of West Virginia, and Eunice Ann Konon of Long Island, N.Y.; two sons, Bernard E. Robtoy of Swanton, and Adrian Robtoy of St. Albans; nine grandchildren, Sean (Buddy) Robtoy and his girl friend, Amber of St. Albans, Adrian II “Pete” of St. Albans, Jordan of Highgate, Sonya of Swanton, Shana of Williston, Tiffany Cratty and her husband, Justin of New York, Michael Gagne of Long Island, N.Y., Heather Robtoy of Burlington, and Felecia Burleson of California; four sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Janet and Harold Osmer of Windsor, Donna Buchanon of Laconia, N.H., Norma and Forbes Louverin of Torrington, Conn., and Alberta Sweet of East Topsham; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins; and one very faithful friend, Carol Irons; along with his many friends from The Clan of the Hawk. Bernard was predeceased by three children: infant daughter Bernetta Ann, Sgt. Penelope Robtoy Pelletier, and Christopher Sweet Robtoy; six sisters and brothers-in-law, Laura and Leo Kenyon, Agnes and Herbert Button, Yvonne and Arthur Laplante, Bernice and William Braley, Barbara and William Root, Evelyn Robtoy and Walter Sweet. A Celebration of Bernard’s Life was held Thursday, Aug. 9, 2007, at the Memorial United Methodist Church, Grand Avenue, Swanton Village. The Reverend Marcheta Townsend officiated. Interment followed in the Robtoy family lot in Riverside Cemetery.
